Artist's Statement

I am a multi-discplinary Black nonbinary artist invoking several mediums in my work including, dance, performance art, analogue/multimedia collage, film, photography, poetry, ritual and magic. My creative vision is intrinsically attached to my connection to my lineage and my lived experience thus it is my mirror I use to inform and relate to my audience. I seek to center black stories, voices and bodies in my work outside of the gaze of colonialism and patriarchy. I push to inspire healing of POC and black bodies through decolonizing stories and the ways in which they are told; usually weaving themes of ritual, ancestral traditions and symbolism in my practice as well as my visuals. Through writing/poetry and authentic movement discovery, I strive to not only inspire but embody change. Through acknowledging and uplifting the traditions that my ancestors (and transestors) used to survive, I hope to envision a world where queer black and POC individuals can safely exist in the fullness of their being and purpose both within and outside of the performance space.
